Grip Condition

The grip is your only contact with the club, so we grade it just as carefully as everything else. Here's how we rate both standard club grips and putter grips — and how to freshen them up if you'd like.

The Two Grip Types

Standard golf grip

Standard Grip

Fitted to drivers, woods, hybrids, irons and wedges. Our standard regrip service starts at $10 per club.

Putter golf grip

Putter Grip

Larger and often non-round for a stable stroke. Putter regrips are $20 per club.

How We Grade Grips

Each grip is inspected by hand for wear, tack and structural integrity so the rating reflects exactly how it will feel in play.

Visual Inspection

We check the full grip for smoothing, shine, cracking and pattern wear.

Feel Test

We assess tack and firmness by hand to judge how secure the hold is.

Regrip Option

If a grip is past its best, add a fresh regrip at checkout and we do it before dispatch.

Our Grip Grading System

New

Brand new grip with no wear at all — exactly as it left the factory.

Key Features:

  • No signs of use
  • Full tack and texture
  • Pattern completely intact

Common Examples:

  • Factory-fresh feel
  • No shine or smoothing
  • Crisp, defined pattern

Good

Plenty of life left. Minimal wear with a secure, tacky feel and the pattern intact.

Key Features:

  • Light, even wear
  • Still tacky in hand
  • Pattern clearly visible

Common Examples:

  • Minor smoothing at thumb rest
  • No hardening
  • Confident, secure hold

Fair

Noticeable wear from regular play but still fully playable. Some smoothing or shine in high-contact areas.

Key Features:

  • Visible wear from use
  • Some smoothing or shine
  • Slightly firmer feel

Common Examples:

  • Shine on upper hand section
  • Pattern worn in places
  • Playable as-is

Poor

Heavily worn, hardened or slick. Functional but we recommend a fresh regrip — which you can add at checkout.

Key Features:

  • Heavy wear or hardening
  • Slick or shiny surface
  • Pattern mostly gone

Common Examples:

  • Loss of tack
  • Cracking or splitting possible
  • Regrip recommended
